This Year's Most Ridiculous Emmy Submissions

Sorry, guys, you're not exactly Emmy material
The 2011 Emmy nomination announcements are still a month away, but since the list of those who submitted themselves for consideration in the acting categories has been released, we thought we'd check out this year's playing field. Some of it is great, if unlikely, but some of it is incredibly laughable. Let's take a look at some of the funniest and saddest submissions, shall we? (And yes, we know these submissions often have more to do with stroking talent egos than with anybody's belief in their chances of being nominated, but that doesn't mean it's not hilarious to see people like Martin Henderson and Chace Crawford throwing their names in the ring against Steve Buscemi and Jon Hamm.)
The Longest, Most Laughable Longshots in the Bunch
  • • Chace Crawford, "Gossip Girl," submitted for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Despite not being a lead, nor the show being an award-worthy drama.
  • • Robbie Jones, "Hellcats," submitted for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. See above, then multiply by a thousand.
  • • Jason Ritter, "The Event," submitted for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He was the captain of the Titanic, if you will. With bad facial hair to boot.
  • • Natalie Zea, "Justified," submitted for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Just because the show is outstanding doesn't mean you are.
  • • Rutina Wesley, "True Blood," submitted for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. It's not Outstanding Supporting Over-Actress, last time we checked.

Apparently, by Some Interpretations, Having Abs Counts as "Outstanding Acting"
  • • Aly Michalka, "Hellcats," submitted for Outstanding Lead Actress in a "Drama" Series.
  • • Ryan Kwanten, "True Blood," submitted for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
  • • Gilles Marini, "Brothers and Sisters," submitted for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Who Cares If I'm the Worst Actress on a Bad, Canceled Show? I'm Going for It Anyway!
  • • Valerie Cruz, "Off the Map," submitted for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

A Very Popular Tactic: Maybe If We Submit Every Actor Who Has Ever Appeared on Our Emmy-Unworthy Show, We'll Confuse the Academy and Somebody Will Miraculously Get Nominated
  • • "Glory Daze," 11 acting category submissions.
  • • "Rizzoli & Isles," 8 acting category submissions.
  • • "The Event," 11 acting category submissions.
  • • "The Cape," 8 acting category submissions.
  • • "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," 8 acting category submissions.
  • • "Psych," 10 acting category submissions.
  • • "Camelot," 9 acting category submissions.
  • • "Army Wives," 10 acting category submissions.
  • • "Off the Map," 8 acting category submissions.
  • • "Outsourced," 9 acting category submissions.
  • • "Rules of Engagement," 8 acting category submissions.
  • • "Royal Pains," 11 acting category submissions.
  • • "White Collar," 15 acting category submissions.

Beautiful Line Delivery, Very Nuanced
  • • Jason Momoa, "Game of Thrones," submitted for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
You're Still on That Show? Who Knew?
  • • Katrina Bowden (Cerie), "30 Rock," submitted for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
Most Awesomely Flagrant Waste of a Submission Fee
  • • Lake Bell, "Childrens Hospital," submitted for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
The "Hey, It's Worth a Try" Strategy
  • • Elizabeth Mitchell, "V," submitted for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Just Sad
  • • Joey Lawrence, "Melissa & Joey," submitted for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
  • • Hayley Hasselhoff, "Huge," submitted for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
  • • Scott Patterson, "The Event," submitted for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Oh, Luke!
